Choose Musical Theatre at UW-Stevens Point

​The musical theatre program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point offers its students stimulating pre-professional classes. The courses focus on the development and investigation of performance techniques.

Classes include private voice lessons (four years), acting (Meisner technique), music theory/piano, musical theater performance labs, audition preparation/scene into song, musical theater dance, ballet, jazz, modern, tap, voice and articulation, musical theater history and New York City Senior Showcase.
There are multiple performance opportunities including fully mounted productions in the Noel Fine Arts Center as well as a New York City Senior Showcase, which introduces students to agents, casting directors and other professionals working in the business.

Career opportunities in Musical Theatre

​Graduating seniors travel to New York City to audition for leading agents and casting directors in an exciting introduction to New York City and the professional world. They use the skills they’ve learned at UW-Stevens Point to meet the challenges of the business and begin exciting careers on Broadway, in regional theater, on national tours and in television and film. Building your résumé

​At UW-Stevens Point, musical theater majors perform in a variety of venues that include state-of-the-art mainstage, studio and dance spaces. The department produces a full season of contemporary and classical theater as well as musicals and dance concerts. Students also have the opportunity to work with world-renowned guest artists such as Audra McDonald, Mandy Patinkin, Patti LuPone, Jason Robert Brown, and Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from “Whose Line is it Anyway?”

Outside the classroom

Players Student Artistic Alliance is a group that coordinates trips to see shows in Appleton, Minneapolis and Chicago. The group mounts student-designed and directed productions and produces “Spotlight” performances that give majors the chance to share original work with their peers. The department also participates in the American College Theatre Festival and has sponsored productions that have toured and successfully competed in regional festivals.

​UW-Stevens Point’s great student-to-teacher ratio means that majors receive excellent guidance and mentoring that supports personal and academic success. Faculty members are accessible and happy to help majors get the most out of their educational experience.
