Placement Testing

Incoming UWSP Freshmen

Welcome to UW Stevens Point as a new student!  All incoming freshman admitted to UW Stevens Point are required to complete placement tests in Math and English.  Depending on your course of study you may also be required to take an exam in a Foreign Language.  These tests are designed to place you in the most appropriate college level courses.  Testing must be completed before you can register for classes.  Retakes are available in Math and English if needed.

If you are admitted to UW Stevens Point for the fall semester, you will receive information about your testing options beginning in February or soon after your admittance.
The University of Wisconsin requires students to show a photo identification document such as driver’s license, student ID, state-issued ID or passport when they arrive to take placement tests.  Students will not be allowed to test without providing an appropriate photo ID.

There is a $30.00 placement test fee that will be charged to your UWSP Fall billing statement for Freshmen.
If you wish to request special accommodations due to a disability, please send a letter on your high school letterhead (please do not send an IEP) from a teacher, counselor or principal who will describe what accommodations are appropriate for you.  Please also include your address and telephone number, which site you wish to test at, as well as what campus you plan to attend in the fall.  Send this information to Tim O’Connor, 1025 West Johnson Street, Madison, WI 53706. Do not register online if you are requesting special accommodations due to a disability.

Regional Placement Testing

(for students attending any UW System Campus)
UWSP Testing Services administers placement tests for students planning to attend any of the UW System campuses, saving you from having to travel great distances to complete needed placement tests.  Registration for placement tests begins on February 1st of each year. Administration of the placement tests takes place on a variety of dates from March through July.  When selecting your test date, check with coaches, music directors, etc. and look at your high school calendar to ensure you have no conflicts.

To register for the tests or to view a comprehensive list of specific tests and available dates, go to the following registration page.  Should you need to make changes to your testing date or time after setting it, changes can be made in the same registration page.

Please remember to print out your confirmation of date and location as you will not receive any other notification of your test registration.  Register as soon as possible –especially if you need a specific date or test site, as some dates and sites fill quickly.  Testing for all dates begins at 8:00 AM and will run through 1:00 PM.  There will be a short break between exams.
