Medications for acute illness or injury are provided at no additional cost to the student. These include most medications such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, creams, ointments, over-the-counter medications, etc. (with a few exceptions).
Medications taken regularly every month, such as those for mental health or other chronic conditions, are billed to the student's tuition account. Most of these medications cost between $11-$17 per 30-day supply and a few dollars more for a 60- or 90-day supply. (See Contraception section below for specifics on birth control options).
Upon request, receipts will be issued to students for tax purposes or to submit to their private insurance companies for reimbursement.
The Student Health Service Pharmacy is happy to help with filling prescriptions issued by "outside" or "hometown" providers whenever we can. However, we may not be able to accommodate all requests. Please click here UWSP Pharmacy Formulary to view a listing of our current, normally stocked formulary of medications.
If you do not see your medication on the formulary list, please call 715-346-4294 or stop by the pharmacy to inquire about options for special-ordering your medication. Our pharmacist will assist you in acquiring your medication, even if we are not able to fill it here.
If you wish to have your doctor send your prescription to the Student Health Service Pharmacy, they may do so by FAX: 715-346-4752, Phone: 715-346-4294, or by issuing you a piece of paper (hardcopy) that you may bring to the pharmacy or have mailed to the following address:
Attn: Pharmacy, Student Health Service, 910 Fremont St. - Delzell Hall, Stevens Point, WI 54481
*** We are NOT able to accept Electronic Prescriptions (E-Rx)***
We are happy to transfer your medication refills from your current pharmacy to the Student Health Service Pharmacy. (*Mail-Order pharmacies are excluded: see below*). To do so, we will need your information, the name of the medication, and the name and phone number of the pharmacy from which you would like your prescription transferred.
If you use a Mail-Order pharmacy, please ask your provider to issue a new prescription for your medication as is outlined above.
We offer a version of almost all available generic oral contraceptives on the market. Most generics are available for $25 per month with a few exceptions.
If a student is enrolled in BadgerCare or Wisconsin’s Family Planning Only Services, we can bill the full cost to that program and there will be no charge to the student. As with other medications, we are unable to bill private insurance directly but will issue a receipt to the student for reimbursement purposes upon request.
Emergency contraception is provided at no cost with a valid prescription from any provider.
Many insurances do not cover the costs of travel medicine. We offer most travel medicine needs that are often much more affordable than other pharmacies. Our travel team can assist you in making the best medical and medication decisions for your next big trip!
Please call our pharmacy staff at 715-346-4294 if you have any questions about how we may best serve you at the Student Health Service Pharmacy.
