Pharmacy Services

Costs and Billing of Medications:

  • Medications for acute illness or injury are provided at no additional cost to the student. These include most medications such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, creams, ointments, over-the-counter medications, etc. (with a few exceptions).
  • Medications taken regularly every month, such as those for mental health or other chronic conditions, are billed to the student's tuition account.
  • Upon request, receipts will be issued to students for tax purposes or to submit to their private insurance companies for reimbursement.

**Under no condition is any student required to use the Student Health Service Pharmacy. Please inform your provider if you prefer to use another pharmacy.**

Prescriptions from non-UWSP health care providers:

  • The Student Health Service Pharmacy is happy to help with filling prescriptions issued by "outside" or "hometown" providers whenever we can.
  • Call 715-346-4294 or stop by the pharmacy to inquire about options for special-ordering your medication. Our pharmacist will assist you in acquiring your medication, even if we are not able to fill it here.
  • If you wish to have your doctor send your prescription to the Student Health Service Pharmacy, they may do so by FAX: 715-346-4752, Phone: 715-346-4294, or by issuing you a piece of paper (hardcopy) that you may bring to the pharmacy or have mailed to the following address:

Attn: Pharmacy, Student Health Service, 910 Fremont St. - Delzell Hall, Stevens Point, WI 54481

*** We are NOT able to accept Electronic Prescriptions (E-Rx)***

Contraception (birth control):

  • The pharmacy offers a wide array of oral contraceptive pills (birth control pills). Most students are eligible for Wisconsin's Family Planning Only Service program (FPOS) which covers the cost of prescription contraception.  For students who do not wish to apply for FPOS the cost is $25.00 per month, billed to your student account.
**As with any other charged medication receipts will be provided upon request for reimbursement through private insurance carriers**

Emergency Contraception

  • Emergency contraception is provided at no cost with a prescription from any provider.

Travel Medicine:

Many insurances do not cover the costs of travel medicine. We offer most travel medicine needs that are often much more affordable than other pharmacies. Our travel team can assist you in making the best medical and medication decisions for your next big trip!

Transferring prescriptions from your home pharmacy to Student Health Service Pharmacy:

We are happy to transfer your medication refills from your current pharmacy to the Student Health Service Pharmacy. Call 715-346-4294 to inquire about options. (*Mail-Order pharmacies are excluded). To do so, we will need your information, the name of the medication, and the name and phone number of the pharmacy from which you would like your prescription transferred.
