Destinations!  Japan -- Intensive Language Program

Approximate Dates:  Fall/Winter Semester is mid-September thru February; Spring/Summer Semester is April thru the beginning of August.

UWSP students are invited to apply for a one-semester or full year intensive Japanese language program at Dokkyo University in Saitama prefecture, near Tokyo.

Dokkyo University is a partner institution of UWSP. Since 1989, Japanese students from Dokkyo University have been coming here to study. Beginning in 2003, UWSP students began attending Dokkyo University.                                                  

Credits earned at Dokkyo University will be converted to UWSP credits!  Depending on your level of Japanese language, credits will be converted from JAPN 101 through JAPN 314 plus F LG 340 -- Special Language Studies.


Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors from all disciplines with a strong desire and commitment to studying the Japanese language. Completion of JAPN 102 or higher is recommended. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 is required.

NOTE: Previous study in Japanese language is preferred, though students without any Japanese language training may be accepted for study at Dokkyo University as introductory language learners.

Included in the UWSP Program Fee:

  • Tuition for Wisconsin Residents (15 total credits). Minnesota students qualify for reciprocity; other states: out-of-state surcharge (ONLY $1000) applies.
  • Accommodations at Dokkyo University.
  • University of Wisconsin System mandated health insurance.
  • Orientation programs at UWSP and in Japan.
