Empowering Students for Success
TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federal grant funded program through the U. S. Department of Education designed to help eligible students succeed in college. The goal of TRiO SSS is to increase student retention and graduation rates by providing personalized and wrap-around support.
Services
The TRiO SSS Program supports UWSP students connect with the University, access services, and develop a sense of belonging to promote student success.
- Academic Advising – Individualized and proactive advising to select courses, tailor academic plans, review goals, and address barriers to success.
- Peer Mentorship – One-on-one support for personal and academic growth.
- Academic Resources and Tutoring – Build skills in time management, test-taking, and studying. Provide tutoring support for course content.
- Financial Literacy – Assistance with financial aid, scholarship applications, budgeting, and other educational workshops.
- Career Exploration and Graduate School Preparation Support – Explore majors and career paths through company tours, connection with professionals in degree fields, informational interviews, and graduate school visits.
- Engagement and Belonging – Events and enrichment activities focused on belonging, well-being, and connecting with UWSP and the greater community.
- First Year Experience and Other Courses – Participants enroll in FYE Seminar and other related workshops, courses, and special topic learning opportunities.

TRiO SSS is completely free, funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of education. The program offers a wide range of holistic services that provide wrap-around support for students. Joining TRiO SSS can significantly enhance your experience at UWSP, providing the necessary support and resources to achieve your educational goals.
Eligibility
A student is eligible to participated in the SSS program based on specific criteria set by the U.S. Department of Education. Students interested in applying for the TRiO SSS program need to:
- Be accepted for enrollment or be enrolled as a full-time, bachelor’s degree seeking student at UWSP
- Be a citizen or national of the U.S. or meets the residency requirement for Federal student financial assistance
- Identify as one of the following:

Complete the online form to indicate your interest in learning more about the UWSP TRiO SSS Program. It will take 3 minutes to complete. After submitting, a TRiO SSS staff member will contact you within two business days to follow up.
We are currently accepting applications for spring 2026 and the 2026-2027 academic year. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon meeting eligibility requirements and space availability.
