Biography
Reporting to the Chancellor, Al Thompson serves as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, working to provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the Division of Student Affairs.  The Student Affairs Division provides essential services and programs, shaping an environment which promotes excellence in student learning, academic success, and personal growth.  The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs identifies and communicates the needs and concerns of the students to the University community and beyond.
The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs provides leadership in a comprehensive Student Affairs Division consisting of ten operational areas: Dean of Students, Athletics, Child Learning and Care Center, Counseling Center, Diversity and College Access, Residential Living, University Centers, Dining and Summer Conferences, Student Health Service, and the Center for Prevention.  Additionally, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs provides leadership to the Student Affairs Budget Analyst located within the Budget Office and the Director of Development for Student Affairs and Athletics reporting through the UWSP Foundation.  
The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs serves as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, and works with all levels and areas of the University, including student shared governance. The position serves as the University/Division liaison to internal and external constituent groups.
Additionally, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs serves as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Senior Diversity Officer (SDO). The SDO has primary responsibility to develop and implement a variety of positive, proactive programs that strengthen the campus' tradition of diversity and advance a strategic and integrated approach to diversity in all aspects of University life. The SDO is responsible for advancing a campus climate that respects, values, and supports the academic, social, and personal development of diverse faculty, staff, and students.
