Fall 2017 Field Trip to Milwaukee

In fall 2017, Sociology/Social Work faculty and students visited Milwaukee for the day to learn more about urban poverty and local attempts to confront it. The first half of the day was spent at Walnut Way, a non-profit organization located in Lindsay Heights that has spent the last twenty years focused on business revitalization, neighborhood development, and personal enrichment initiatives. The second half of the day was spent touring and volunteering at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, one of Milwaukee’s largest and oldest shelters for homeless and families in need. In all, the day helped students connect with some of the issues faced with urban poverty and sustainability face-to-face.
