{"id":721,"date":"2026-01-05T18:38:38","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T18:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-uwsp-multi.pantheonsite.io\/school-of-education\/?page_id=721"},"modified":"2026-05-21T00:46:54","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T00:46:54","slug":"pk18","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.uwsp.edu\/school-of-education\/pk18\/","title":{"rendered":"\u200bPK-18 Council for Central Wisconsin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p id=\"contentLevel1\"><em><strong><em><strong>Improving<\/strong><\/em> student achievement through enhanced educator effectiveness and increased organizational capacity in Central Wisconsin<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The PK-18 Council for Central Wisconsin works to enhance collaboration between PK-12 school districts and institutions of higher education for the purpose of improving student learning.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All members of the Council share the common goal of assuring that our collective efforts significantly impact education in our region of Wisconsin.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>PK-18 Council Goals<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Align pre-service teacher and practicing teacher experiences with the Wisconsin Teacher Standards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop post-graduate and professional development delivery models for our region that emphasize research-based, best practices and utilize the talent within this region<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Determine additional regional strategies to support Wisconsin educator quality initiatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess regional PK-18 education programming to determine logical places for future collaboration and avenues for joint partnership<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>PK-18 Council Work Teams<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work Team #1: Implementing Best Practice\/ Professional Development<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Priorities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To increase professional development opportunities for classroom teachers in order to identify and support struggling readers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To increase professional development opportunities for grade 5-10 math teachers in order to improve student learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work Team #2:<\/strong> Developing Leadership Capacity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Priorities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To clarify standardized testing and assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To create a supportive work environment for teachers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To create political savvy among administrators, teacher leaders, pre-service teacher leaders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To explore grant writing opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work Team #3:<\/strong> Building a Seamless System of Educator Quality<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Priorities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To continue to foster PK-18 partnerships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To continue to facilitate a clear understanding of Wisconsin Teacher Standards &amp; Assessment tools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To create political savvy among administrators, teacher leaders, pre-service teacher leaders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To develop quality mentor relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>History<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Regional administrators, curriculum directors, university faculty and staff, and representatives from other organizations participated in the formation of the PK-18 Council for Central Wisconsin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model for the Council is based on the Education Trust (Washington, DC) and Wisconsin\u2019s statewide PK-16 Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>Our Objective<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The PK-18 Council for Central Wisconsin enhances the collaboration between PK-12 school districts and institutions of higher education for the purpose of maximizing student potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This collaboration benefits area school districts and universities as they work together to address the challenges of improving student learning and the implementation of the Wisconsin Teacher Standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As schools face tougher economic times, the need to share ideas and strategies simply makes good sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>Guiding Principles<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Address each conversation and initiative as a PK-18 partnership<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure our regional efforts are supported by research-based best practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with agencies, organizations and institutions of higher education to further our purpose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establish a form for initiatives and issues to be brought forward, discussed and resolved<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commit to developing the capacity of the collaborating members of the Council and the council as a whole<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitate the professional growth and development of regional leaders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>Collaborating Members<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Abbotsford School District<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arbor Vitae \u2013 Woodruff School District<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CESA #9<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D.C.
