Other excursions will include visits to the Berlin Wall, Beatles story museum, Scottish Highlands, and the Golden Ring of Iceland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meet with social justice organizations across Germany, the UK, and Iceland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect with other college students at <em>RheinMain University<\/em> and<em> Liverpool Hope University<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Germany, explore social change from the past on the <em>Berlin Underground tour<\/em>. Visit the <em>East Side Gallery, <\/em>showcasing street artworks that symbolized unity after the fall of the wall in 1989.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the United Kingdom, experience the <em>Beatles Story museum<\/em> and learn about the impact of slavery and human rights at the <em>International Slavery Museum<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Scotland, visit the <em>Scottish Highlands<\/em> for a day, witness mountains, castles, waterfalls and wildlife through local narrative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Iceland, visit the <em>Golden Circle<\/em> and <em>UNESCO Geopark<\/em>, and experience sustainable living.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:36% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1008\" height=\"756\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uwsp.edu\/school-of-behavioral-and-social-sciences\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/europe.jpg\" alt=\"Professors Bowers and Barry standing near scenic view on trip to Europe\" class=\"wp-image-246 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uwsp.edu\/school-of-behavioral-and-social-sciences\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/europe.jpg 1008w, https:\/\/www.uwsp.edu\/school-of-behavioral-and-social-sciences\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/europe-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uwsp.edu\/school-of-behavioral-and-social-sciences\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2025\/11\/europe-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1008px) 100vw, 1008px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong>Program Leaders:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jess Bowers (<a href=\"mailto:jbowers@uwsp.edu\">jbowers@uwsp.edu<\/a>) directs the social work program and has practice experience in child welfare, interpersonal violence, and school social work. Jess teaches social welfare policy and professional ethics and boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David Barry (<a href=\"mailto:dbarry@uwsp.edu\">dbarry@uwsp.edu<\/a>) studies the intersections between nature, art and aesthetics, and social change. He teaches on social movements, environmental justice and coordinates the Social Justice and Equity Certificate.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Trip locations and countries were selected based on the unique historical and contemporary positions that each are situated in respect to these topics, offering an opportunity for comparative discussion and reflection for students. During the trip, students will connect with other university students and organizational and community leaders facilitating social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the course outcomes, students will engage in an immersive field experience culminating in a reflective assignment shared with our campus partner organizations.
