IMPROVE LIVES, ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE, AND IMPACT YOUR COMMUNITY<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our department aims to prepare students to understand how people, groups and institutions interact within and between societies. Students in both sociology and social work gain applied knowledge through field and research experience that is aligned with their interests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sociology students prepare for careers in community and human services, law enforcement and criminal justice, public service, general business and management, and other careers that build on analytical skills and global and multicultural competencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Work students prepare for success in the field. Students at both undergraduate (BSW) and graduate (MSW) levels enroll in programs that are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)<\/a>. Their course studies instill the knowledge for students to lead and advocate for social, economic, racial, and environmental justice and the development of responsive social policies, programs, and services that enhance human and community well-being.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the bachelor\u2019s program in social work at UWSP is to prepare competent, effective, self-reflective generalist social workers who embody the core values of the social work profession, apply critical thinking and research skills, abide by the NASW Code of Ethics, and engage anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work in local, national, and global contexts. The program prepares students to employ systems, strengths-based, and empowerment approaches in serving individuals, families, groups, institutions, and communities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
