Tragic fires in residence halls have drawn attention of residents, parents, and staff alike. Here at UWSP, fire safety is a priority. While we have been fortunate to not experience a damaging fire, we continually emphasize with our residents that it is important to take precautions and to view seriously any threat to their safety.
As you talk with your student, we would appreciate your support in emphasizing:
- the impropriety of false alarms
- the importance of evacuating their building anytime an alarm is sounded
- the importance of following safety policies which are in place in the halls and specified in their student handbook.
The most important thing our students, faculty and staff can do in regard to fire safety, is to take alarms seriously. Building evacuation is a crucial part of protecting lives.
