My research focuses on risky health behaviors surrounding tobacco use, substance use, and chronic illnesses. Various past and ongoing projects involved several methodologies and populations including laboratory trials examining tobacco use behaviors and evaluation of harmful chemical exposure, smoking abstinence trials in an outpatient clinic, surveys of e-cigarette/vape users in vape shops, and evaluation of college campus-wide smoking bans. Most recently, I have been conducting several projects on tobacco and marijuana co-use and the exposure to harmful chemicals experienced by co-users.
Past students have been involved in conducting phone screens for study eligibility, conducting patient visits, managing data, participant recruitment efforts, and journal club meetings focused on expanding student expertise in particular sub-fields of health psychology and substance abuse. Projects are aimed for presentation at local and national conferences as well as peer-reviewed journal publications.
