Media studies students explore a range of communication behaviors in and across mediated channels. Students are encouraged to take courses in print and multimedia journalism, radio, television and film. Skills gained are transferrable to a variety of fields, and media professionals create content on multiple platforms.

MEDIA STUDIES MINOR

This minor is administered by the area of Media Studies in the School of Design and Communication.

If you are interested in declaring a media studies minor, you must meet with a media studies adviser. Contact the School of Design and Communication office to make an appointment.

Consists of a minimum of 18 credits.

Required, 9 credits

MSTU 105 – Foundations of Media Practice: Time, Motion, and Video Credits: 3
MSTU 106 – Foundations of Criticism: Understanding Media Credits: 3
MSTU 107 – Foundation of Media Writing Credits: 3

Electives, 9 credits

Of the 9 credits, 6 credits must be 300-level or above. Choose any combination of the following:

9 credits of MSTU courses
REL 350 – Religion and Film Credits: 3
FLNG 252 – Media Arts in World Cultures Credits: 3 (subtitle: Bad Chicks in Foreign Flicks)
