Model United Nations Summer Camp (K12)

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Political Science Department is hosting its second annual Model United Nations (UN) Summer Camp for high school students.

Join us for 3 days of fun while learning about the UN and the Model UN simulation led by UWSP Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Mert Kartal, and two members of UWSP’s award-winning Model UN team.

The 2018 Model UN Summer Camp

The UWSP Model UN Summer Camp is a program for students in grades 7-12 to learn about various aspects of world affairs.  The camp simulates the activities of a UN body such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants assume the roles of diplomatic representatives to the UN as they consider a contemporary international concern such as terrorism, nuclear weapons, immigration, poverty, global warming.

Through this role-playing event, the UWSP Model UN Summer Camp provides participants with an opportunity to (i) learn the basics of the UN as an international organization, (ii) understand key contemporary issues in international relations, (iii) develop an understanding of how inter-state diplomacy works, and (iv) strengthen their research, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

The UWSP Model UN Summer Camp differs from the Academic Decathlon and the Mock Trial programs in that it is not so much a competition as it is an event.  Participants are not required to have any prior knowledge of the UN or Model UN.

This year's summer camp will be held on the UWSP campus on August 15, 16, and 17..

The registration fee for the 3-day Model UN summer camp is $110 per participant.  The fee includes all lectures/workshops/activities and related materials, access to and use of UWSP facilities, a walking tour of UWSP campus, Model UN t-shirts and drawstring bags, and breakfast and lunch on each day of the camp.

Important note: The UWSP Model UN Summer Camp is a "day camp" program.  That is, participants in need of housing will need to arrange their own accommodation since we will not be able to provide it as part of the day camp package.
