About

Brian Baldauff is Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he directs the percussion ensemble, teaches applied lessons, percussion fundamentals courses, and percussion pedagogy. He also teaches courses in music literature and history and serves as director of the Computer Music Center. Active as a performer of solo and chamber music, Brian can be heard on the recent release (2019) by The John Psathas Percussion Project (JP3) Volume 1 and the critically acclaimed compilation album flux issued by the Society of Composers, Inc (2019). His debut solo album, Canyon was released to positive reviews in 2018.

Brian currently serves as co-principal percussionist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and has appeared as a guest soloist with the UWSP Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Involved in creating new music and advancing the repertoire for percussionists, Brian has commissioned works by Adam Silverman, Jamie Whitmarsh, Jonathan Kolm, and others. He frequently collaborates with colleagues in performances and other projects.

In demand as a clinician, Brian has presented at numerous Percussive Arts Society Days of Percussion and at high schools and universities across the United States. As a founding member of the Denkyem Percussion Group, he toured Costa Rica performing concerts and teaching masterclasses. As an advocate for high-quality percussion education in secondary schools, he has presented sessions at the West Virginia Music Educators Association Conference and is designing a summer percussion intensive for music educators to be offered at UWSP (2020). Brian is also the founder and director of the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Program’s percussion ensemble.

Brian holds the Doctor of Music degree from The Florida State University, Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Central Florida. His primary teachers include Dr. John W. Parks IV, Jeffrey Moore, Joseph Gramley, and Dr. Michael Udow. His previous teaching experiences include serving as Director of Athletic Bands and Percussion at West Liberty University in West Virginia and as drum line instructor for the Florida State University Marching Chiefs. Brian proudly endorses Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets, Sabian cymbals, Remo drumheads, and is a member of the Black Swamp Percussion Educator Network.
