Policy effective Fall 2022<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UW\u2011Stevens Point expects all undergraduate students\u2014degree\u2011seeking and non\u2011degree\u2011seeking\u2014to meet minimum academic standards in order to continue their studies. Students who meet these standards are considered in Good Standing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Academic Standards<\/summary>
\n

To remain in Good Standing, students must maintain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • 2.00 semester GPA or higher, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 2.00 cumulative UWSP GPA or higher<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Only grades earned at UW\u2011Stevens Point are used to calculate academic standing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

    How Academic Standing Is Evaluated<\/summary>
    \n

    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Evaluated each Fall, Spring, and Summer term. Winterim does not generate academic standing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Calculated for students who attempted 6 or more credits in the term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The only standing recorded on the official transcript is Suspension.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • When readmitted after a term of suspension, transcript notations update to: Suspension\u2014Readmitted on Warning<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • When reinstated based on appeal a, transcript notations update to: Suspension\u2014Reinstated on Probation<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n
      If Standards Are Not Met<\/summary>
      \n

      Students who fall below the required GPA may continue enrolling but will be placed on one of the following standings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • Warning<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Probation<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Suspension<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Your standing depends on your semester GPA and whether you\u2019ve previously been on Warning or Probation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Students on Warning who do not meet academic standards in a later term may move to Probation or Suspension.
        Students on Probation who are not making progress toward meeting standards will be placed on Suspension.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

        Expectations for Students on Warning or Probation<\/summary>
        \n

        Warning and Probation are opportunities for students to reassess academic strategies. Students are expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        • Reflect on their academic habits<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Connect proactively with instructors<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Work with academic advisors and academic success staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n
          Suspension<\/summary>
          \n

          Suspension provides students time to create a plan for academic improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Students with a Suspension standing cannot continue<\/strong> as degree\u2011seeking or non\u2011degree\u2011seeking students for a specified period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Students will be notified in writing when Suspension is finalized and will receive instructions to appeal if eligible. Students who do not appeal by the deadline and students whose appeals are denied will be administratively withdrawn from course registrations for all subsequent semesters except Summer or Winterim, see below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Students who have served their term of suspension may apply for re-admission for the indicated term following standard procedures of the Office of Admissions for re-entry students.  No appeal is required as part of the application process.
          <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Summer & Winterim Exception<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

          Suspended students may remain enrolled in Summer or Winterim courses only if<\/em> they were already registered before being suspended.
          If their cumulative GPA is higher than 2.00 after that term, they are automatically readmitted on Warning for the following term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Corrections and Appeals<\/summary>
          \n

          <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Corrections<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

          Students may request an immediate correction to Warning, Probation, or Suspension if a grade change affects their standing. If no immediate change is made, updated grades will be applied during the next term\u2019s standing evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Appeals<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

          Only a Suspension <\/strong>may be appealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Suspension appeals must be based on unforeseen circumstances (e.g., serious illness, injury, family emergency) that occurred during the Probationary period that prevented the student from earning a semester grade point average of 2.00 or higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


          Appeals require:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          • A signed appeal form<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • A personal statement<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Documentation supporting the circumstances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            Appeals are reviewed by the University Academic Appeals Committee.
            Decisions from the committee may be appealed to the Provost or their designee, whose decision is final.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

            Standing for New, Re\u2011Entry, and Reinstated Students<\/summary>
            \n

            <\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            • New freshmen and transfer students: admitted with no standing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Re\u2011entry students: return with the same standing they had when last enrolled (Good, Warning, or Probation).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Readmitted after suspension: placed on Warning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Reinstated suspension on appeal: placed on Probation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/details>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
