An experienced Title IX administrator has been named the new assistant chancellor for Civil Rights and Title IX coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Chocoletta Simpson is serving in this role to ensure compliance with state and federal nondiscrimination regulations and civil rights protections and other policies such as Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Equal Employment Opportunity and the Clery Act. She reports to the chancellor.
Simpson previously served as the Title IX coordinator and vice president in the Office of Institutional Equity and Access at St. Cloud State University, working with both students and staff members on best practices and forward-thinking policy development. She was the executive director of the Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusion at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Mo., and director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access at Western Illinois University. She also served as Title IX coordinator/affirmative action officer and as an adjunct instructor in political science at Arkansas State University
She holds a Master of Public Administration degree and Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Arkansas State University and is completing a Doctor of Education degree in higher education leadership at St. Cloud State University.
Simpson serves as a board member for the Paramount Center for the Arts in St. Cloud, Minn., and is a youth mentor
“Chocoletta’s extensive experience in higher education and Title IX administration ensures that UW-Stevens Point will continue its compliance with required policies, laws and regulations, preserving a safe and inclusive learning community for students, faculty and staff,” said Interim Chancellor Pratima Gandhi. “We are grateful to have her strategic leadership at UWSP.” Title IX is a federal civil rights law set in place as a part of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any educational setting that receives funding from the government. Affirmative action policies improve employment and educational opportunities for people of all ages, races, abilities, genders and sexual orientations.
