The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Department of Theatre and Dance offers shows themed with “Defiant Hearts” that celebrates courage, boldness, and the unbreakable human spirit.
“From the picket lines to the dance floor, from the corporate office to our own imagination, these seven productions remind us that defiance takes many forms,” said Michael Estanich, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. Each performance, through either word, song, or movement, invites us to see the world in new ways.”
• “Waiting For Lefty,” Oct. 2-4 & 8-10, 2026, a group of exploited taxi drivers debating a strike during the Great Depression. The play features vignettes that reveal the struggles of the working class against economic hardship and corruption.

Tickets for “Waiting for Lefty” will be available for sale starting Monday, Aug. 31. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2-3, 8-10 and 2 p.m. Oct. 4 and 10 in the Studio Theatre at the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point.
Individual and season tickets are now available for the 2026-27 theatre and dance season:
- “The Rocky Horror Show,” Oct. 23-25 & 28-31, follows strait-laced couple Brad and Janet who stumble upon the castle of the scientist Dr. Frank-n-Furter, leading to a night of B-movie-inspired sci-fi, horror, and sexual liberation, featuring iconic songs like “Time Warp” and “Sweet Transvestite”.
- “Afterimages 2026,” Nov. 20-22, features original student choreography and staging.
- “Everybody,” Feb. 12-14, 2027, a modern, comedic adaptation of the medieval morality play Everyman, which follows the character “Everybody” on a journey to face death, exploring themes of mortality, friendship, and the meaning of life.
- “Uncle Johnny,” March 5-7 & 11-3, 2027, adapted from Uncle Vanya, the seminal work of Russian playwright, Anton Chekhov. On a central Wisconsin dairy farm, Uncle Johnny is pondering life, love and what it means to be living in today’s America.
- “9 to 5,” April 16-18 & 22-24, 2027, based on the 1980 hit movie about three female coworkers, pushed to the boiling point by their egotistical boss, who concoct a plan to get even.
- “Danstage 2027,” May 7-9, 2027, features new choreography by dance faculty Michael Estanich, Kate Gomez Moore, Chris Kaiser, and a to be announced guest artist.
First Nighter’s packages are available for this season’s performances, which include a pre-show cocktail hour, dinner and ticket to the opening night performances of the five featured mainstage and studio theatre productions.
