 Symphonic Wind Ensemble

The UWSP Symphonic Wind Ensemble, founded in 1968 by Donald Greene, was the first ensemble of its kind in the state of Wisconsin. Throughout its esteemed history, the UWSP Wind Ensemble has performed at National, Regional, and State conventions and tours and continues to be an ensemble of artistic, imaginative, and collaborative excellence. This is the premier ensemble in the UWSP Symphonic Wind Ensemble family and is comprised of the most distinguished woodwind, brass, and percussionist students on campus. The UWSP Wind Ensemble often collaborates with world-renown soloists, composers, and conductors.  For more information, please contact Michael Butler.

 Wind Symphony

The UWSP Wind Symphony is an ensemble composed primarily of music majors but also includes non-majors who are interested in performing at a very high level. The Wind Symphony's repertoire includes traditional symphonic band repertoire and contemporary excursions.  For more information, please contact Michael Butler.

 Auditioning for Band

Auditions are held each semester for all instrumentalists wishing to be a member of the UWSP Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony. Any student enrolled at UWSP with previous experience on a wind or percussion instrument may audition for acceptance into these ensembles.

Each semester, auditions are held in the first several days of classes. Audition material is selected in coordination with Dr. Butler and the applied music faculty and are made available to interested students at least four weeks prior to the start of each semester. Audition schedules are coordinated with Dr. Butler and the applied music faculty. Please contact Dr. Butler (mbutler@uwsp.edu) if you are interested in obtaining the audition material and scheduling an audition time.
