UWSP File Storage Options
File storage space is available to all UWSP students, faculty and staff for work related to instruction, educational or university business activities. The following file storage options are supported at UWSP.
OneDrive for Business Cloud Storage
OneDrive Cloud Storage is in the Microsoft Office 365 suite of Cloud applications. It is the recommended storage location when accessing documents from various devices such as smartphones, tablets, and your desktop computer's web browser.
Your OneDrive can be used to store most common file types created by UWSP supported applications. For information on file type and size restrictions visit this Microsoft Support article.
Files stored in your OneDrive are accessible by default only to you. You can also share OneDrive files with others for collaborative work.
Microsoft Office 365, including OneDrive for Business, is available for free to all UWSP students, faculty and staff.
myFiles Network Storage
myFiles, also referred to as the "H: drive", is available from any campus computer and from off-campus with an Internet connection. Every UWSP student, faculty and staff person has a dedicated myFiles storage space.
myFiles is automatically backed up by Information Technology.
myFiles can be used to store the majority of file types created by UWSP supported applications and is a good storage solution for files you do not intend to access from mobile devices or share collaboratively.
Students have 10 GB of myFiles storage. myFiles for students is divided into two folders known as Inetpub and Private.
Your Private folder is accessible only by you.
Your Inetpub folder can be used for development of a personal website. All files stored in this folder are open to the public. Inetpub files are accessible via the Internet and can be found with an internet search.
Faculty and Staff myFiles
Faculty and staff have 100 GB of myFiles storage. All work is stored in the Private folder. Files stored in your myFiles are accessible only to you.
Department Network Shares
Department shares are shared network storage spaces created for work units, courses or project work. Access to manage and edit files in these spaces is designated by unit head or course instructors.
Department network shares are automatically backed up by Information Technology.
SharePoint is a content management system with automated workflows. Files stored can be allowed access through a web browser or through Microsoft Office applications.
SharePoint is the recommended storage location when linking documents to webpages. It is also used by groups of people who collaborate on the same documents. For example, the more formal documents produced by a committee or larger group can be stored in SharePoint and made available via the web to a larger audience.
Files kept in SharePoint are automatically backed up by Information Technology.
Kaltura is a media management system provided by UW System for use by the UW teaching and learning community.
Kaltura can be used to store video, image and audio files created by UWSP instructors and students for use in their courses (Note: Copyrighted material should be kept in E-Reserves).
Media files in Kaltura have a two-year retention policy and are backed up as part of the service.
