Choose Interior Architecture at UW-Stevens Point

As a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point interior architecture student, you will learn how art and science come together in our Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) professional degree program. You will immerse yourself in interior design while sharpening your creative, technical, technological and critical thinking skills.

Our interior architecture faculty and staff combine their professional knowledge and research experience to provide great resources to students in the program, which is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Career opportunities in Interior Architecture

More than 90 percent of UW-Stevens Point interior architecture graduates find successful employment in the design field soon after graduation. You may work as an interior designer in a design firm specializing in commercial design, office planning, health care facilities, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, high-end residential design or historic preservation. As our interior architecture alumni testimonials show, regardless of where you eventually end up working, you will find that your professional skills and training are always in high demand in the design field. See where our alumni are working!

Building your résumé

An internship is the best way to gain a real-world experience while you're still an interior architecture student. Working with a professional designer allows you to challenge yourself, get in-depth knowledge of a design specialty and establish professional connections.

The interior architecture program offers you a unique opportunity to complete an international internship with a design firm in London, England as well as a summer trip to Sri Lanka. Study tours focus on design, architecture and art of each region. You can also study a semester abroad in a country of your choice through UW-Stevens Point Office of International Education.

Outside the classroom

You will have frequent field trips for class and study tours to examine interior design firsthand. Trips include Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Madison. These study tours allow you to visit design showrooms and art museums, get an up-close look at the practice of interior design in design firms, learn about career opportunities and network with professionals in the field.

You can enhance your education in this major when you join one of our active student organizations. Our award-winning chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Design Student Association (IIDSA) will help you connect with others who are just as passionate about interior design. If you are interested in learning about design heritage and historic buildings, the Historic Preservation Student Society (HPSS) offers you invaluable experiences. Join the student chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) to explore architectural lighting.
