Exceptions to the Board of Regents&#8217; Policy must be met prior to the fall semester, as the housing contract is a binding contract for one full academic term. As such, it cannot be terminated due to reaching an exception milestone during the academic year (age, high school graduation date of two years).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u200bResolution 173, May 5, 1972<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><em>UW-Stevens Point requires all students who are two years or less out of high school to live on campus. Students who are not veterans, married, or living with parent(s) or guardian(s) within the 40-mile radius, are required to live in a university-operated residence hall when such accommodations are available.<\/em><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p><em><br>Housing and Residence Life has the obligation to enforce both the Board of Regents&#8217; Policy and the terms of the Housing and Dining Contract. Students enrolled at UWSP beginning with the fall semester must meet one or more exception criteria by the first day of fall semester classes to be exempt from living on campus that academic year.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><br><strong>\u200bApplication for Exemption to Housing Requirement<br><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The UWSP Housing Exemption Form is due no later than August 1 prior to the start of the applicable academic year and December 1 for spring admits. Students are encouraged to include any information they believe will support their request. Exceptions to the Board of Regents&#8217; Policy must be met prior to the fall semester, as the housing contract is a binding contract for one full academic term. As such, it cannot be terminated due to reaching an exception milestone during the academic year (age, high school graduation date of two years).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u200bResolution 173, May 5, 1972<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><em>UW-Stevens Point requires all students who are two years or less out of high school to live on campus. Students who are not veterans, married, or living with parent(s) or guardian(s) within the 40-mile radius, are required to live in a university-operated residence hall when such accommodations are available.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><br>Housing and Residence Life has the obligation to enforce both the Board of Regents&#8217; Policy and the terms of the Housing and Dining Contract. Students enrolled at UWSP beginning with the fall semester must meet one or more exception criteria by the first day of fall semester classes to be exempt from living on campus that academic year.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>\u200bApplication for Exemption to Housing Requirement<br><\/strong>The UWSP Housing Exemption Form is due no later than August 1 prior to the start of the applicable academic year and December 1 for spring admits. Herbs are typically burned in a small shell or other containers that will not burn.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Dean of Students (DOS) office can grant exceptions to the non-smoking (tobacco-free) policy for smudging purposes.<\/li>\n<li>Individuals who wish to practice smudging should contact their residence hall director with information on when and where they plan to hold their ceremony<\/li>\n<li>Herbs to be burned are: sage, cedar, or sweetgrass<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-create-block-uwsp-accordion-section\"><summary class=\"accordion-heading\">Gender-Inclusive Housing Options<\/summary><div class=\"accordion-content\">\n<p>Housing and Residence Life is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that provides a safe, accessible, and respectful community for all. We understand that when your gender identity\/expression is not readily reflected when giving a preference for where you would like to live, it is difficult to determine what would be optimal for you. Housing and Residence Life \u200bhas the following options available for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>\u200b\u200bHousing Application and Assignments<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On our housing application, there is an optional section for students to share their gender identity. There is a drop-down option, but also a space for students to self-identify if their gender identity is not listed.<br \/>Housing and Residence Life uses the binary cis-genders and then works one on one with students who do not identify with their assigned gender at birth.<\/p>\n<h3>Roommates<\/h3>\n<p>Students may already have a roommate lined up that is accepting of their gender identity whether it&#8217;s someone who has a similar gender identity or not. These roommate requests can be sent to our housing assignments coordinator via UWSP email. <br \/>If students are looking for someone to room with, Housing and Residence Life can assist with that matching process as our housing application collects information on gender identity and allyship.
