The athletic training program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is committed to serving students seeking national certification in athletic training. Comprised of a variety of skills—including emergency care, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation—athletic training provides an engaging and ever-changing career.
The MS-AT program at UW-Stevens Point strives to incorporate effective teaching strategies, hands-on learning, the latest technologies, and mentorship to prepare students to excel as athletic training professionals. We provide a collaborative, responsible, student-centered and experiential learning environment, which will produce students who are passionate and productive athletic trainers, critical thinking lifelong learners, and ambassadors for cooperative and effective health care for active individuals.

The athletic training program is housed in the Science Building and Marshfield Clinic Health System Champions Hall on the UW-Stevens Point campus. The teaching facilities include state-of-the-art treatment and rehabilitation equipment, a concussion lab, an aquatic therapy pool, and classrooms equipped with Smartboard technology for interactive lectures and up-to-date clinical learning tools such as low-level laser therapy, a Biodex Sway Postural Stability Unit, and a virtual reality to learn more about interactive rehabilitation.

Career Guidance
During your education, the athletic training faculty and staff will work with you to determine your career goals and help you attain them. Graduates of the MS-AT program are employed in a wide variety of settings such as colleges and high schools as well as the industrial or clinical setting. Many of these jobs are in Wisconsin, but our Pointer alumni network expands across the nation. Our graduate placement rate for students is 90% or higher in AT-related positions.

Program Outcomes
We have continually surpassed the national average for the BOC pass rate on first attempt every year since 2009 and have a job placement rate of 96% for the past three years.

Board of Certification Pass Rate
The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MS-AT) program is reviewed annually by our University Assessment Committee and by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) to ensure student success and maintain accreditation. MS-AT faculty guide students through a studying process during the second year in the program to prepare for the Board of Certification (BOC) exam and work with our alumni network to assist with job placement after graduation. We have continually surpassed the national average for the BOC pass rate on first attempt every year since 2009 and have a job placement rate of 96% for the past three years.

Tuition and Costs
Students will be enrolled as full-time graduate students for two consecutive years. Pricing is the same for in-state and out-of-state students. All students are charged $452 per credit.

Segregated fees are assessed to all students for service, program and facilities that support the mission of UWSP. The fees are assessed by UWSP, not the MS-AT program.
** One-time fee (year 1) for uniforms, personal medical kits, certification fees, workbook and NATA resources.
- UWSP application fees: $56.
- Physical, immunizations and titers: Cost varies on insurance and health care providers. Physicals and select immunizations are provided as part of your segregated fees through UWSP Student Health Service. Published fees for vaccines
- Personal student liability insurance: $25. (yearly fee)
- Annual NATA Student Membership: $99.
- Textbooks: Varies based on vendor and new or used preference. Graduate students are not assessed any text rental fees, but are responsible for purchasing required textbooks. The MS-AT program will attempt to keep this cost as minimal as possible.
- Travel: Costs varies based on location of clinical site. Travel to off-site clinical rotations is the responsibility of the MS-AT student.

Classrooms
Graduate students enjoy convertible classroom-to-treatment tables, plus distance-learning capabilities that connect the Stevens Point campus with students in Marshfield and Wausau.
Labs
In the Neinas Concussion and Research Classroom, students learn how to assist athletic medical personnel in identifying and treating athletes who have experienced severe head trauma.
Sports Medicine Center
Hands-on learning continues in the UWSP Sports Medicine Center which will serve as the main site for your clinical rotations in the AT program. The Sports Medicine Center offers over 2,000-square feet of space for care and treatment of UWSP athletes, students and faculty and staff.

CAATE Accreditation
The UW-Stevens Point athletic training program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) which holds us to the highest level of outcome data. Graduates with this degree are prepared and eligible to sit for the national Board of Certification (BOC) examination. In order to practice as an athletic trainer, a student must graduate from a CAATE-accredited program and pass the BOC examination.
