Hanen Centre's It Takes Two to Talk® Program at UW-Stevens Point

For parents of children birth to 5 years of age

It Takes TwoThe Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic at UW-Stevens Point is proud to host the It Takes Two to Talk® program for parents of children (birth to 5 years of age) who have been identified as having a language delay. In a small, personalized group setting, parents learn practical strategies to help their children learn language naturally throughout their day together.

The "It Takes Two to Talk" program teaches step-by-step how to become a child’s most important language teacher. The program shows parents how to:
  • Recognize child’s stage and style of communication
  • Identify what motivates children to interact with parents so they’ll know how to get conversations started
  • Adjust everyday routines to help children take turns and keep interactions going
  • Follows children’s lead to build confidence and encourage communication
  • Add language to interactions with children to help them understand language and then use it when they is ready
  • Tweak the way parents play and read books with children to help them learn language
  • Change the way parents speak to children so that they’ll understand and learn new words
