Kevin earned both his Bachelor and Master degree’s from UW-Steven Point, with major studies in Forestry and Natural Resources Management. He has over 28 years of consulting experience working with forest landowners in Wisconsin and Michigan. His special interest is in the use of evolving technologies as they relate to the inventory and sustainable management of natural resources. Kevin has a long history with UWSP-Treehaven, beginning as a student of the CNR summer camp program in 1989. Since that time he has instructed summer camp forestry courses, along with numerous landowner workshops, and continuing forestry education courses at the Treehaven facility. Kevin is responsible for all land management activities on the 1,400 acre Treehaven demonstration forest, and as a member of the CNR Forestry Faculty Kevin also coordinates research on the property, supervises student land management projects, and instructs CNR forestry and continuing education courses.

Emplyment Experience

2009 to Present – Vallier Treehaven Forest Ecologist with the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point based at the College of Natural Resources Treehaven Field Station in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Primary duties include sustainable management of the 1,400 acre Treehaven woodland property for the purpose of education, demonstration, and research. Other responsibilities include the instruction of forestry courses for CNR students, continuing education for professional foresters, and for providing forest and naturalist training for public programs.

2007 to 2009 -- Manager, Technical Services for Forest Resource Services, LLC, Gaylord, MI. Responsible for sales of forestry equipment and software, plan & design large acreage/complex resource inventories, create custom TCruise templates, map using ArcMap & SoloForest, document field procedures, develop data download and transfer protocols, data analysis and custom reporting, training, trouble shooting & technical support. Also coordinate and instruct training workshops throughout the Lake States for woodland owners, other resource management professionals, and clients.

2006 to 2007 -- Product Representative for the LandMark Systems “Real-Time-Inventory” (RTI) suite of technology based resource management hardware and software solutions. Provided training, sales, and customer support to foresters and wildlife managers within the Lake States Region.

2002 to 2006 -- Owner, Northwoods Consulting Forestry, Sagola, MI. Established private forestry consulting firm to provide woodland owners with a full range of professional land management services. Also specialized in all aspects of organizing and implementing large scale resource inventory projects.

2000 to 2002 -- General Manager with Canal Forest Resources, Inc., Iron Mountain, MI. Responsible for all operations of the CFR Northern Division, which included three District offices, 18 full time employees, up to 10 limited term employees, and various subcontractors. Duties included marketing, bidding and preparing project proposals, client relations, project supervision, administering contracts, financial planning and budgeting, internal accounting, employee performance reviews, hiring, firing, raises, and promotions. Also planned and organized large acreage forest inventories, developed custom software applications, and researched emerging technologies and procedures in the application of professional forestry.

1991 to 2000 -- Forest Manager with B-SQUARED, INC. Forestry Consulting, Rosholt, WI. Duties included all aspects of forest management including air photo interpretation, silvicultural prescriptions, management planning, harvest scheduling, timber sale preparation, contracting and sale administration, etc.; specialty projects such as timber appraisals, legal advice, expert witness, and GIS/GPS applications; also responsible for various business functions such as marketing, bidding and project proposals, quality control, employee training, business management, work scheduling, budgeting, and policy development. Instrumental in the "start-up" and growth of two District offices, and a GIS Department. Subsequently promoted to Vice President, and later to President responsible for allactivities at the three office locations, including supervision of 16 full-time employees, and up to 10 limited term employees. Assisted in the sale of B-SQUARED, INC. to Canal Forest Resources, Inc.

1985 to 1991 -- Forestry Technician with B-SQUARED, INC. Forestry Consulting, Mellen, WI. Experience included timber cruising, boundary line location, timber marking, mapping, volume calculations, sawlog grade determination, timber sale inspections, wildlife and recreation improvements, etc.; also supervised and trained new personnel in various forestry activities. Forestry Assistant from 1975 to 1981, assisted Foresters and Technicians with timber marking, boundary work, tree planting, and forest inventories.

Military Service – Sergeant First Class (E-7) Retired, U.S. Army - 25 years of honorable service. Received the Bronze Star for duty in support of Iraqi Freedom III, stationed at Camp Anaconda, Balad, Iraq. Army Reserve, Transportation Instructor, Ft. Sheridan, IL. Army Reserve, Transportation, Green Bay, WI. Army Reserve, Fire Fighter, Hurley, WI. Active Army, Infantry, stationed in Colorado for one year and Europe for three years.
