BECOME A POINTER.

As a new student, you are eligible for several financial aid opportunities at UWSP. The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for federal, state, and institutional financial aid. In order to receive a financial aid offer, you must be admitted to UWSP. Admission information is available on the Office of Admissions website.

The Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Services administers federal, state, private, and institutional aid. A good place to begin is by understanding the various types and sources of financial assistance (view our Types of Aid tab) as well as the cost of attending the University. Additionally, we’ve created a financial aid brochure, FAFSA completion tips, and financial aid checklist for you to use to assist you in the financial aid process.

The FAFSA determines your eligibility for grants, loans, work-study, and any need-based scholarships. If you have already filed the appropriate year’s FAFSA, you may simply add UWSP’s federal school code to your FAFSA so we can receive your application. Click on the login button to “add a school” and follow the instructions. UWSP’s Federal School Code is 003924.

Please note that student financial aid does not directly transfer between schools. Instead, UWSP will recalculate your eligibility from scratch based on the information on your FAFSA and the availability of funds remaining. Certain types of government aid are portable, while campus-based aid such as Federal Work-Study is not. In addition, any money awarded by the institution from its own funds will not transfer. Oftentimes, transfer students, especially mid-year transfers, may qualify for less financial aid than first-time and continuing students.

If you are transferring in the middle of the academic year, the amount of federal student aid for which you are eligible will be reduced by the amount of federal student aid you received at the previous school. There are cost of attendance caps on the amount of federal student aid you can receive. Based on the cost of each institution, for instance, if UWSP is much less expensive than the previous school, the amount of financial aid you can receive might be reduced. Keep your current university informed about your intent to transfer. Any university will be within its rights to withhold official transcripts if you have unpaid bills. This could make it difficult for you to transfer your credits to UWSP.

The FAFSA has space for you to list up to twenty school codes. To send your FAFSA information to UWSP, list our school code in one of the fields. If all fields are filled, replace one of them with our school code. It may take a week for us to receive the data from your FAFSA and communicate with you. Be sure to submit any supplemental forms required by us in a timely manner.

It is our hope that you will find the information on our financial aid website helpful.
