Teaching

I teach across the physics curriculum, from upper division core courses in theoretical and experimental physics to sophomore level introductory physics courses.  I enjoy them all and am positively influenced by the enthusiasm and energy the students bring with them and the fresh perspectives they offer. 

My current teaching rotation includes the following courses:

  1. Physics 470, Advanced Experimental Physics.  This is the capstone course for Physics majors where students learn the art of experimental physics by working independently on individual projects.
  2. Physics 435, Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics. The emphasis is on statistical concepts from the very beginning with applications to classical thermodynamics, bosonic and fermionic systems, and elementary concepts from information theory. 
  3. Physics 250, Part II of the physics sequence required for majors in physics, chemistry, and paper & chemical engineering. A background in calculus is required. 
  4. Physics 204, Part II of the physics sequence for the pre-meds, and majors in biochemistry.
  5. Physics 388, Research credits in physics.  The completion of a technical project is required along and students are expected to produce a manuscript. This course is highly practical and designed for students who wish to gain specific skills in experimental physics.  The research projects are chosen to make students applications more competitive for advanced studies in physics or engineering, or to provide students with a portfolio of technical accomplishments if they wish to pursue industrial positions directly upon graduation.  

In the past, I have also tauught the following:

  • Physics 220, Engineering Statics.  A course for pre-engineering students who wish to obtain credits in order to transfer to an engineering program.
  • Physics 240, Part I of the physics sequence required for majors in physics, chemistry, and paper & chemical engineering. A background in calculus is required. 
  • Physics 203, Part I of the physics sequence for the pre-meds, and majors in biochemistry.
