Special services to combat viruses, germs:

The UW-Stevens Point Facility Services-Custodial Work Unit provides special disinfecting service in all academic, residential and administrative buildings and university centers during the influenza season.  The Clorox Total 360® disinfecting system uses electrostatic delivery to provide superior coverage. We are already using three of the daily cleaning products most effective for combatting viruses. They include...

  • OXIVIR® TB WIPES, powered by Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide (AHP®) technology, these disinfectant wipes are effective against a broad spectrum of pathogens, in just one minute.  With one pass, Oxivir® Tb wipes are tough enough to clean and disinfect surfaces and equipment, while being gentle on staff, equipment and surfaces.
  • OXIVIR® FIVE 16, a one Step Hospital Grade Disinfectant Cleaner effective against a wide variety of micro-organisms including viruses, bacteria, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, fungi, mould and mildew. Formulated with AHP® technology Oxivir® Five 16 delivers fast, effective cleaning and disinfecting performance in one step, rinse-free.
  • VIREX II 256, a one-step, quaternary-based disinfectant cleaner concentrate providing broad spectrum disinfection at 1:256 dilution. Used in healthcare and other facilities where cleaning and prevention of cross-contamination are critical. Bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal. Kills MRSA and VRE. Meets bloodborne pathogen standards for decontaminating blood and body fluids. One of the leading brands in hospital hard surface disinfection.

Clorox® Total 360® Electrostatic System Technology

During flu season, the UWSP Facility Services - Custodial Work Unit, which services all Academic, Residential Life, Administrative and Centers buildings on campus invested in a Clorox® Total 360® System, an innovative new disinfecting system, in an effort to help keep our students, faculty and visitors healthy and safe from harmful germs and illnesses such as fast-spreading stomach, norovirus and flu bugs. These illness-causing viruses and bacteria are easily spread on college campuses, with many public shared spaces and a lot of people in close contact in classrooms, cafeterias, athletic facilities and other common areas – they can even survive on surfaces for months at a time making cleaning and disinfecting our surfaces an important first line of defense.

The Clorox® Total 360® System uses a patented electrostatic delivery system that quickly and easily provides superior coverage of trusted Clorox® disinfecting and sanitizing solutions by helping them "cling" to these potentially infected surfaces, like desks, locker rooms or door handles. The system works by charging and atomizing the Clorox® disinfecting or sanitizing solution, delivering a powerful flow of charged cleaning particles that are attracted to surfaces with a force stronger than gravity. This allows the disinfecting or sanitizing product to reach and consistently coat surfaces, including areas where conventional trigger sprays may easily miss.

We at UWSP Facility Services are dedicated to ensuring a healthy environment for those who live, work and learn in the buildings that we serve on campus. For this reason, we proactively invested in this system that has already began to play a key role during this tough flu season in keeping our students and faculty happy and healthy.

Hygiena SystemSURE PLUS™ ATP Measurement System (ATP Meter)

The UWSP Facility Services - Custodial Work Unit employs this product to ensure the levels of cleanliness in the buildings which we serve.  The SURE PLUS measures Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), the universal energy molecule found in all animal, plant, bacterial, yeast, and mold cells.  ATP testing is a universally recognized tool used by organizations of all sizes for measuring the hygiene levels of surfaces in order to ensure consistent sanitation practices as well as public safety.  Implementing a monitoring system to validate cleanliness has been shown to increase compliance to cleaning procedures from 40% to 82%.

Self-Cleaning Touch Point Material

In the fall of 2020, the UWSP Facility Services Custodial Work Unit began placing self-cleaning surface materials on frequently touched surfaces in campus buildings.  This “NanoSeptic” technology means continuously self-cleaning surfaces.  These products use safe, non-toxic materials.  These products help to turn dirty, high traffic public touchpoints into cleaner surfaces.  Powered by light, NanoSeptic surfaces utilize mineral nano-crystals which create a powerful oxidation reaction.  Working 24/7, the surface continually oxidizes organic contaminants.  The NanoSeptic surface uses no poisons, heavy metals or chemicals, and nothing is released from the surface since the nano-crystals are molecularly bonded to the material.

You may begin to see what looks to be decal material affixed to touch points like door plates, handles, elevator buttons, etc.  These will be the NanoSeptic materials.  These frequently touched surfaces will still be a focus for disinfection by custodial but this technology offers an added level of protection in between cleanings.  Facility Services is always looking for innovative ways to keep our facilities cleaner.
