DIVIDIEN is a multimedia exhibition and senior capstone project of UWSP Media Studies student Larz Luecht. Larz captures the turmoil of both oneself and society, through a series of abstract paintings, experimental films, and unsettling music pieces. These works aim to convey the spirit of Andy Warhol’s The Factory, a free-flowing state of creativity needed in the arts. DIVIDIEN, using a self-titled character, dives into the tension between artist, inner self, and the world, with the work serving as an audio-visual message, utilizing bold colors, textures, and synth-based sound design to evoke feelings of paranoia, fear, and anger. By focusing on experimental artwork, the exhibition is encouraging viewers to pay attention to the turbulence of society today and understand we are all one.
Larz Luecht is a Wisconsin-based filmmaker, musician, photographer, and painter, whose works explore themes of paranoia, nature, identity, and spirituality. Luecht’s influences range from the expressions of identity and personal writing through the songs of musicians David Bowie, Brian Eno, and Kendrick Lamar to boundary-pushing filmmakers and visual artists Stan Brakhage, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and David Fincher. Luecht utilizes instruments and materials in unorthodox ways to showcase his perspective on the world, focusing on abstraction than realism. With his work, Luecht seeks to go into new areas of possibility that challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of what art can be.
