Graduate Certificate
Equity and Inclusion in Education
The Graduate Certificate in Equity and Inclusion in Education consists of 12-credits of coursework as well as a train-the-trainer capstone experience (EDSU 790/EDSU 990). The course work explores systems, structures, policies, practices, and attitudes to create a more equitable and inclusive learning environment, culminating with an action-oriented project. This certificate is designed for students in the educational sustainability doctoral program that want a concentration in education for equity and inclusion.

Key Program Features
The UWSP Master of Science in Education program provides a flexible and accessible pathway for individuals to advance their careers in education, whether by earning an initial teaching license or expanding their expertise as experienced educators. It is a program designed to meet the needs of working professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of education.
Flexibility
The program offers a wide range of course options, allowing students to tailor their studies to their specific interests and career goals within the field of education.
Teaching License
Students have the option to pursue an initial or additional teaching license alongside their master’s degree. This provides opportunities for career advancement and increased job market competitiveness.
Credit Requirements
To earn the MSE degree, students must complete a minimum of 30 credits. The program is structured to accommodate part-time study while working, typically spanning over two years.
Online Format
The program is entirely online, offering the convenience and flexibility necessary for working teachers and educators to balance their professional commitments with their studies.
Culminating Assessment
The culminating assessment is the creation of a comprehensive portfolio. This portfolio is likely to showcase the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program, serving as evidence of the student’s educational growth.

I have a teaching license
Choose from a variety of elective courses, or consider adding an add-on licensure/certificate to complete within your master’s program. We have add-on programs in early childhood special education, cross categorical special education, gifted and talented education, health education, adapted physical education, family and consumer sciences, and reading.
I don’t hold a teaching license
For students who do not hold a teaching license but would like to earn one during their time at UW-Stevens Point, you can combine the master’s in education degree with one of our accelerated licensure/certification programs. We currently offer initial licensure/certification programs in special education, elementary education and family and consumer science.
I’m just here for the Master’s
Although most of our master’s degree students are licensed teachers, we also have students who are health care providers, athletic trainers, wellness professionals and business leaders. If you are interested in education, have a bachelor’s degree, and a desire to learn in a supportive environment then you should apply! A teaching license is not required.

In addition to coursework, master’s students will need to complete a comprehensive portfolio* to graduate. This portfolio will include artifacts and reflections from coursework in the program. The portfolio allows students to develop an organized collection of work and thinking that demonstrate content mastery, growth, and evidence that candidates are self-directed and reflective practitioners.
Students pursuing reading licensure should follow the directions for the Reading Portfolio given to them through their coursework and adviser.
*A master’s thesis option is also available in lieu of the comprehensive portfolio.

Tuition and Costs
We recognize that cost is essential when determining which program is best for you. Tuition, segregated fees, and a distance education fee combine to determine the program’s total cost, and each item is priced on a per-credit basis. There is an additional $25 administrative fee per semester of enrollment. For questions about tuition or more information, please reach out to Student Financial Services.
Students working towards their master’s in education degree, are considered degree-seeking and are eligible for financial aid.

- Teaching license (If applicable)
- Once you have been accepted into the program, you will apply to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as a degree seeking student.
- Once you have been accepted into the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, you will be emailed instructions to set up your student account and register for classes.

Do you want to just take one course or try out the program? You can register as a student with graduate special status. As a graduate special student you can enroll in graduate-level courses and receive graduate credit for teacher certification requirements or for personal enrichment. A maximum of 9 credits can apply toward a master’s degree provided they are approved by your adviser and fit within the seven-year time period. If you decide to pursue a master’s degree, it is in your best interest to change your status to graduate-regular as soon as possible.
