UW-Stevens Point offers certification in the following majors, secondary education minors, elementary education minors, and graduate certifications. Due to changes in state requirements, this list may change at any time.

Early Childhood Education (Sample four-years grad plans available here)

  • Ages 0-8, Early Childhood-UWSP Catalog years prior to fall 2020
  • Birth through third grade-UWSP Catalog starting fall 2020

  • Ages 6-13, Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence-UWSP Catalog years prior to fall 2020
  • Grades K-9 (includes 4-year old kindergarten)-UWSP Catalog Starting fall 2020

  • Elementary Education major 
    • UWSP Catalog years prior to fall 2020-requires an approved 22 credit minor or second major
    • UWSP Catalog yer starting fall 2020-option to add additional teaching majors (early education, special education, French, German or Spanish), teaching minors (early childhood special education, teaching English as a 2nd language, health education or special education) or certificate program, if interested
 

Secondary/K-12 Education (Fall 2020 Catalog and later)


A teaching major in a Secondary/K-12 program is required.

  • English (major or minor)-Ages 10-21 Early Adolescence through Adolescence
    • Broadfield Language Arts option available
  • English as a Second Language(minor)
  • Environmental Studies (concentration for Science majors)-Ages 10-21 Early Adolescence through Adolescence
  • Family and Consumer Sciences-Grades PK-12
  • French (major)-Grades PK-12
  • German (major)-Grades PK-12
  • Health Education (minor)-Grades PK-12
  • History and Social Studies (major)-Grades 4-12-allows a teacher to teach all social studies fields
  • Mathematics (major or minor)-Grades 4-12
  • Music Education with options in General, Instrumental and/or Choral-Ages 0-21 Early Childhood through Adolescence

UW-Stevens Point is currently working on Department of Public Instruction approval for the following new license categories:
  • English and Language Arts-Grades 4-12-allows a teacher to teach in all English and language fields
  • Music-Grades PK-12-allows a teacher to teach in all music fields
  • Science-Grades 4-12-allows a teacher to teach in all science fields
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (minor)-Grades PK-12

Graduate Teacher Certification/Add-on Certification


Graduate programs are available for individuals already holding a teaching license. Achieve your certification in one of the following areas:
