Expectations


 
Once admitted to the Central Wisconsin Alliance for Early Childhood Education Program, students will be responsible for abiding by the following expectations.

I. Complete UW-Stevens Point Math 90 and 95 (equivalent) or test-out

Deadline: Must be completed by the end of semester I of Cohort IV.
 
Students who do not have the equivalent of UW-Stevens Point Math 90 and 95 completed should speak with an adviser as soon as possible about test-out options and/or course availabilty. 
 

II. Applying to UW-Stevens Point

Deadline: Four months prior to the start of coursework at UW-Stevens Point
 

III. Applying to the Professional Education Program

Deadline: Prior to the start of semester II of Cohort IV.
 
Students admitted to the Central Wisconsin Alliance Program must formally apply to the Professional Education Program. All application requirements must be met prior to applying.

IV. Content Knowledge Requirement

The State of Wisconsin requires students to demonstrate content knowledge by either earning a 3.00 or higher GPA in the early childhood education major or pass a content-specific standardized test. Students in the Central Wisconsin Alliance for Early Childhood Education Program are required to take the "Elementary Education: Content Knowledge" Praxis Subject Assessment test #5018. This test covers content in Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. To register, visit Educational Testing Services online. Students should take this test in semester III of Cohort IV.

V. Foundation of Reading Test

This is a test that covers skills needed to teach reading and is required for all Early Childhood Education majors. Students should take this test after semester II of Cohort IV.

VI. Education Teacher Performance Assessment 

edTPA includes a review of a teacher candidates authentic teaching materials as the culmination of a teaching and learning process that documents and demonstrates each candidates ability to effectively teach his/her subject matter to all students. Students must complete the Education Teacher Performance Assessment during their student teaching semester.

Retention

Students are expected to maintain satisfactory and steady progress in the program and must have at least a 2.75 grade point average in major, minor and cumulative to be eligible to student teach.
This program is offered based on the number of professionals enrolled in the Central Wisconsin Alliance for Early Childhood program. A minimum enrollment must be reached in order for these courses to be offered. If that number is not reached the courses will be rescheduled for the following calendar year.
