He also serves as Artistic Director of the Monteverdi Chorale in Stevens Point.<\/p>\n<p>Originally from Brazil, Dr. Cruz earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the State University of Maring\u00e1 and\u00a0his\u00a0Master of Music from\u00a0the University of Missouri\u2013Columbia, where he studied with Dr. Paul Crabb and Dr. Brandon Boyd. Prior to moving to the United States, he worked extensively as a K\u201312 public school music educator and directed community and church choirs throughout Paran\u00e1. He later received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Missouri\u2013Kansas City.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, Dr. Cruz has maintained an active conducting career. He served as Chorus Master for the 2021\u20132022 production of <em>Cos\u00ec fan tutte<\/em>\u00a0by Mozart and conducted staged performances of Handel\u2019s <em>Acis and Galatea<\/em>\u00a0in fall 2021. His artistic work reflects a strong commitment to collaborative music-making, student mentorship, and stylistically informed choral performance.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cruz\u2019s research centers on Brazilian choral music, with particular emphasis on the works of Osvaldo Lacerda (1927\u20132011) and Jos\u00e9 Maur\u00edcio Nunes Garcia (1767\u20131830). His scholarly activities have resulted in\u00a0publications, editorial projects, and leadership roles in major choral organizations in both Brazil and the United States. His publications include the <em>Choral Journal<\/em>\u00a0article <strong>\u201cOsvaldo Lacerda\u2019s Choral Legacy: Shaping the Sounds of Brazilian Choral Music,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0as well as <em>\u201cChoral Singing and the Elderly \u2013 Rehearsal as a Moment of Great Possibilities\u201d<\/em>\u00a0(Brazilian Music Educators Association Magazine \u2013 ABEM, 2014) and <em>\u201cChoosing the Choral Repertoire: A Conductor\u2019s Task?\u201d<\/em>\u00a0(<em>M\u00fasica Hodie<\/em>, 2016).<\/p>\n<p>An active clinician and guest conductor, Dr. Cruz previously served as Repertoire and Resources Chair for World Music &amp; Cultures for the American Choral Directors Association Southwestern Division (2020\u20132022). He regularly collaborates with festivals and educational programs in Brazil and the United States, including serving as choral director for major music festivals in Cascavel and Pato Bragado, Paran\u00e1, and as a clinician and instructor at the UW\u2013Madison Summer Music Clinic.
