Her work examines how changes in the mass balance of glaciers in arctic and alpine areas alter phytoplankton communities over the Holocene. Slemmons is coordinator of the Natural Science Education program. On campus, she is the chair of the Biology Executive Committee, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, SBBC Retention Committee and University Sabbatical Committee. Slemmons is coordinator for the Life Science and Biology Certificate programs. She is involved in the Pilot Program Honor Program STEAM, as well as College Day for Kids workshops. As the Scribner Professor of Biology Education, she also works closely with the School of Education at UWSP to mentor student teachers and collaborate with Education faculty members on the best methods to help students learn science. View website.

TEACHING HONORS/AWARDS

Fulbright Teaching and Research Scholar (2023)

Excellence in Service, UWSP Biology Department Award (2021)

University Excellence in Teaching, UWSP (2019)

Excellence in Scholarship, UWSP Biology Department Award (2018, 2019)

Excellence in Teaching UWSP Biology Department Award (2018)

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography

National Association for Biology Teachers

Aquatic Sciences, Journal of Paleolimnology, Limnology and Oceanography, Arctic, Antarctic and Alpine Research (Peer Reviewer)

Journal of Paleolimnology, Hydrobiologia, Mountain Research and Development, National Geographic Society (grant reviewer), Biogeosciences,

PUBLICATIONS

Price, J.
