He studied at the South Carolina Governor&#8217;s School for the Arts, Furman University, the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and the University of Miami. His work has been featured in over eighty exhibitions, and in 2010, he was recognized as a core member of the contemporary painting movement, the Miami School.<\/p>\n<p>Gambrell served as Director of the University of Miami&#8217;s College of Arts and Sciences Gallery and founding director of UM&#8217;s Wynwood Project Space. He also founded the Grand Gallery in South Carolina to provide rural access to the arts. He taught for the University of Miami (FL), Elizabeth City State University (NC), the Savannah College of Art and Design \u2013 Atlanta (GA), Furman University (SC), SCAD \u2013 Hong Kong (HK), and Northern Arizona University (AZ) before joining the University of Wisconsin \u2013 Stevens Point (WI) faculty as an assistant professor of painting and drawing.<\/p>\n<p>Gambrell has authored critical art reviews of exhibitions in the U.S., Canada, Colombia, Switzerland, and Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>His paintings and collages are showcased in private collections in the U.S., Canada, Colombia, Switzerland, Germany, Hong Kong, and New Zealand and can be seen in public collections such as the historic Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center in Asheville, NC and the Clara M.
