Thomas Craig

As Aquaculture Technician, Thomas is responsible for daily fish care and facility maintenance including water quality sampling and management, cleaning systems, calculating feed rations, data collection and analysis. Thomas also assists in developing research projects and publishing data as well as providing tours and presenting on facility projects. Thomas had previously worked at the facility as a summer intern during his undergrad at Northland College. After graduation, Thomas accepted a six-month apprenticeship at the facility to further develop his skills in aquaculture including culture of both cold and cool water fish species in incubation, larval and grow out systems which involved ponds, raceways and indoor recirculating systems. Due to this experience gained, Thomas was accepted as a full-time aquaculture technician with the facility in November 2025.

“Each year through the internship and then apprenticeship I have gotten to be a part of industry leading research that fuels me to continually ask more questions and dig deeper into the world of fish culture. Stepping into this position has set a path for my career I could only dream of and having such a great group of dedicated researchers around me has been inspiring to answering the problems we continually face in different aquaculture practices. Handling and working with all the different species has been an absolute blast and I can’t wait to continue providing quality care/research to the future of aquaculture.”
