Patrick Merchak has 29 years of experience in the paper industry. Before joining UWSP, he spent most of his career at the Biron Paper Mill. He also has two years of experience as a power plant operator. Throughout his career, he has led production teams, mentored employees, and remained committed to maintaining safe and efficient operations.

Patrick also served in leadership positions with the United Steelworkers, where he advocated for employees, promoted workplace safety, and worked collaboratively to address workplace challenges.

At UWSP, he enjoys sharing his industry experience with students while supporting hands-on learning in the paper science program and helping connect classroom concepts to real-world manufacturing.

Outside of work Patrick loves spending time with his wife and three children, traveling, and hiking to discover hidden caves, beautiful waterfalls, and breathtaking views.
