Mindy Park

Bio

Dr. Mindy Park, cellist and music educator, completed her Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was the recipient of the 2022 Dr. Charles Leonard Endowed Fund for Excellence in Music Education Award. Dr. Park is on the faculty at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as the Assistant Professor of Cello and the Strings Music Education Coordinator. She has garnered top prize winnings from national and international music competitions for cello performance including the Irving M. Klein International String Competition, the Corpus Christi International Competition, the Aspen Summer Music Festival Low Strings Competition, and the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Solo Competition. 

She was featured as a soloist with orchestras around the US such as the Aspen Concert Orchestra, the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra, and the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and her performances were featured on Chicago WFMT 98.7’s Introductions series, and PBS TV. She was also invited as a guest artist at Chicago’s own Ravinia Music Festival.

As an avid chamber musician, Dr. Park was a prize winner at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Rembrandt Chamber Players Competition, and the St. Paul String Quartet Competition, and she held an artist-in-residence at the Laguna Beach Chamber Music Festival and the Klein International Competition Chamber Music Residency in San Francisco, CA.

Dr. Park received her Bachelor’s in Music and an Artist Diploma in cello performance at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, and she holds a Master’s in Music Education from Boston University. Prior to Ph.D. studies, Dr. Park was on the cello faculties at the Music Academy of Northwestern University Bienen School of Music and the Music Institute of Chicago. Dr. Park’s cello students have won prizes and awards at numerous cello competitions around the country, and she is recognized for her student-centered pedagogy and cello teaching.

As a scholar, Dr. Park has presented and published her research related to musical creativity and student-centered teaching at various conferences and journals, including the American String Teachers Association National Conference and the American String Teacher Journal.

Dr. Park’s principal teachers include Hans Jorgen Jensen and Ronald Leonard.
