Chang-Ping Gu is a versatile violinist, violist, and educator originally from Taiwan. A former Associate Instructor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, he is currently completing his Doctor of Music, specializing in violin and viola performance alongside music theory. Gu has established himself as a dedicated musician with notable achievements across North America and Asia.

Over an extensive performing career, Gu has played with numerous professional ensembles, serving as Concertmaster for the Bloomington Chamber Singers and performing in the first violin sections of the Owensboro Symphony, Queensboro Symphony, and YinQi Symphony Orchestra & Chorus. During the 2026–2027 season, Gu will be joining the Weidner Philharmonic, the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, and the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra as violinist and violist. His chamber music collaborations feature work with distinguished artists such as Keng-Yuen Tseng, Midori Goto, and Gábor Varga, performing a wide repertoire ranging from Mozart to contemporary works. He was also featured as a guest artist at the North Star Music Festival.

His dedication to music education is reflected in his research, which focuses on violin and viola pedagogy and the integration of music theory into performance. His doctoral research introduces a violin practice method rooted in Schenkerian analysis, helping performers bridge structural understanding with performing technique and practice.

Gu is completing his Doctor of Music in violin performance (anticipated 2026) with minors in music theory and viola at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying under Mark Kaplan, Atar Arad, Mimi Zweig, and Frank Samarotto. He also holds a Performance Diploma from IU, a Master of Music in Jazz Piano Performance from the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music, and degrees in violin performance from the National Taipei University of the Arts and Soochow University.
