Russell has been involved in the culinary arts for 30 years and has competed at the State and national levels in culinary competitions. He was also a Culinary Specialist in the United States Navy for 22 years, and he authored the Navy training guide for "Field Messing". He is currently a reserve Chief Culinary Specialist in charge of training all Navy Reserve Culinary Specialists in the operation of Field Kitchens.
He graduated in 1982 from Des Moines Tech in Culinary Arts, and then went on to study Special Education at the University of Northern Iowa. He also has a Bachelor of Science in education in Family and Consumer Science from UWSP.
In his spare time, Russell enjoys playing golf, wood working, bow and gun hunting, and is a member of the Waupaca Chain Skiers Water-ski Show Team with his family.
