​COVID-19 DCA VIRTUAL RESOURCES

These are the services that Diversity and College Access (DCA) will continue to provide virtually to students during this period of Safer at Home:

Multicultural Resource Center:

  • One-on-one check-in via Zoom
  • Guided conversation via Zoom - advice and guidance on mental health, academic success, future plans

Native American Center:

  • Facebook Live Interviews for engagement
  • QTPOC Facebook group to keep in contact with our weekly meetings
  • One-on-one meetings via Zoom with Native students

Gender and Sexuality Resource Center:

  • Classroom presentations via Zoom that relate to material students are covering
  • Student staff training (this is necessary for things like TLC, Dining, and other resources that students are currently using)
  • One-on-one meetings via Zoom for contingency/emergency plans if student is outed and kicked out of home
  • Weekly Zoom meeting programs (QTPoC lunch, Trans Lunch, etc.)
  • Inclusivity consultation with campus administration, staff, and faculty
  • Safe Zone trainings
  • Collaborations and planning different services with the Office of Sustainability, Residential Living, Health Services, Counseling, Academic and Career Advising Center, Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning etc

Multicultural Resource Center - Wausau:

  • Continue zoom one-on-one meetings with Native students
  • Advocate for students of color and LGBTQ+
  • Continue to engage students via Facebook

Retention Coordinator:

  • Completing Financial Literacy programs for Lawton Grant
  • Virtual walk-in hours on any academic/registration questions students may have
  • Advertising Jump Start

DCA - Main Office:

  • Continue to liaison between campus and all students of color and LGBTQ+ students
  • Advocate for all students of color and LGBTQ+ students
  • Research and provide financial support for all students of color and LGBTQ+ students where possible
  • Provide mentorship to all students of color and LGBTQ+ students

Upward Bound:

  • Posting education, college planning, academic success related articles on UB Facebook page, Closed Facebook Group (UB Pointers)
  • Academic Success and College Planning Webinars – possible feedback or reflection type forms for the students to complete and submit online related to webinar
  • "Virtual College Tours" – sending students via email links to UW System Schools "virtual tours" (UB staff would contact schools for this link or find it on institution website) and having students answer specific questions regarding the college tour
  • Weekly web "challenges" that students could participate in – such as Take a photo or video of yourself practicing a stress management technique presented in a webinar and send it to UB email.  At end of the week, we would post a photo college of all the students who completed the challenge.  I think Boys and Girls Club is doing something similar.  I got this idea last week, but the BG Club got some press for it.
  • Facebook Live Events – e.g. UB Staff demonstrating a stress management technique
  • Upward Bound Book Club – we are searching a novel or book about 1st Gen/LI students in college.  We'd have weekly discussion questions or Zoom Club meetings.
