Software

• Kurzweil 3000
  Reading software with many adjustable features. This program uses scanned text to make an image of the text appear on the screen and optical character recognition to turn the text into speech. This software will also act as a screen reader and allows you to type into the program. It has many additional features that are useful as study aids. There are two workstations in the AT lab with Kurzweil 3000.
  
  To get started using Kurzweil Text-to-Voice reading program for reading your documents, papers, or web pages:
  • Use Google Chrome or Firefox for your browser

• Zoom Text
  Screen magnifier and screen reader for students with visual impairments. Also allows for custom color schemes to enhance visual quality. This software is available on two computers in the AT lab.
• Windows 10 Narrator
  Screen reading software available on all computers with Windows 10. Go to: Start > Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access > Narrator.
• Windows 10 Magnifier
  All computers with Microsoft Windows 10 are equipped with a screen magnifier, along with other accessibility options. To access the magnifier, go to: Start > Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access > Magnifier.
• Dragon Naturally Speaking (Premier)
  This software is called "Voice Recognition" software. Once the user has programmed his or her voice into the computer workstation, it allows the user to use the computer verbally. This includes using menu commands and word processing. The user speaks into a microphone, and the words appear on the screen. This software is available on computers in Albertson Hall on the 3rd floor and in testing rooms on the 6th floor.
• Mac Computers
  These computers come with zoom and magnifier tools, as well as the screen reader VoiceOver.
• Sonocent
  Audio note taking software. Record, type, insert PowerPoints and PDFs. Computer download, and it also works with an app on a phone or tablet.

Equipment in the Assistive Technology Lab

• Computer Stations
  Five (5) PCs and one (1) Mac. Three (3) adjustable computer tables for wheelchair access.
• Scanner + Adobe Acrobat DC
  Scanner can be used to scan papers, notes, book chapters, etc. Adobe Acrobat DC software allows for PDF editing, such as cropping or deleting pages.
• Keys-U-See Keyboard
  With larger than normal keys for students with visual or physical impairments.
• Logitech Keyboard and Mouse
  Offers zoom features for students with visual impairments.
• Magnifiers
  Both a hand-held and hands-free full-page magnifier are available.
• DaVinci
  A high performance desktop video magnifier (CCTV), featuring text-to-speech (OCR) and a 3-in-1 camera.

  Ebook reading device that also has text-to-speech capability.
• SmartPens
  Use special notebook paper to record audio and writing simultaneously. Enables uploading to a computer for reviewing and editing.
• DSS Olympus Recorder
  Simple audio recorder; enables downloading to Dragon Naturally Speaking.
• Orion Talking Scientific Calculator
  Each key is spoken when pressed. Ideal for advanced algebra, trigonometry, computer science, chemistry, and statistics.
• Transformer USB
  Flexible and portable laptop solution for magnification up to 30x.
• Pebble
  Flexible and portable handheld magnifier.
