FAQs Regarding Services at the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic
What services are available?
A full range of speech/language diagnostic and therapy services is
available. Assessment and treatment can be provided for the following
communication concerns. These concerns may be secondary to cleft
palate, cerebral palsy, autism, laryngectomy, hearing loss, cognitive
disorders, learning disabilities, stroke, traumatic brain injury, or
other neurological disorders.

- Oral-Motor Disorders
- Voice Disorders
- Foreign Accent Reduction
- Hearing Loss
- Swallowing Disorders
- Complex Communication Needs/Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Comprehensive hearing evaluations are offered for children and
adults, and individuals are counseled on the results. If the person is a
candidate for amplification, assistance and advice is provided
regarding purchasing options for hearing aids or other assistive
listening devices. Weekly follow-up visits are scheduled for new hearing
aid users, in order to help individuals derive maximum benefit from
their hearing aids. Audiologists provide individuals with a thorough
orientation in the use, care, and maintenance of the specific
Audiological services include the following:
- Hearing screenings and comprehensive evaluations including:
Pure Tone Thresholds and Speech Audiometry, Admittance Testing (tymps
and acoustic reflexes), Central Auditory Processing, Electrophysiologic
Testing (ABR and OAE), and Vestibular Testing (ENG)
- Hearing screening and follow-up evaluations for infants
- Aural rehabilitation
- Hearing aid evaluation, fitting, maintenance, and repair
Who can use the clinic's services?
The services of the clinic are available to people of all ages who
have concerns about their speech, language, or hearing. Self-referrals
and outside referrals are accepted.

When is the clinic open?
The clinic is open Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. during the three academic semesters of the year and closed for
holidays and vacation breaks. The hearing aid fitting and dispensing
program maintains “on-call” office hours during vacation breaks.
Where is the clinic located?
The clinic is conveniently located on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
campus on the lower level of the
College for Professional Studies Building, 1901 Fourth Avenue
Reserved client parking is available in the lot directly in front of
the College of Professional Studies. Access is provided for those who
are physically challenged.
Is parking available?
Reserved client parking is available directly in front of the
College of Professional Studies in the U-shaped parking lot. Please park
in a space designated as Clinic Patient Parking.
Is there a waiting list for available services?
Evaluations and treatment are scheduled by appointment
throughout each semester. Depending upon the services, there may be a
waiting list. Please contact the clinical administrative assistant at
715-346-3667 for more specific information. If no immediate
openings are available, every effort will be made to provide an
appointment during the subsequent semester.
Speech/language therapy sessions are typically scheduled two
times per week, with the semester therapy schedule being set at the
beginning of each semester.
Audiology appointments are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hearing aid repairs can be completed Monday through Friday.
What do services cost?
The clinic offers exceptional services at competitive prices.
Fees for the initial evaluation and treatment sessions vary according to
the nature of the need and the type of service required. A copy of the
current fee schedule for speech/language services or information on
audiology evaluation cost estimates would be available upon request.
Costs for hearing aids cannot be given until a full hearing evaluation
has been conducted and we have determined the type of hearing aid that
meets the needs of the patient. Please contact the clinical

How can I pay for services?
Payment in full is typically requested at the time of service;
however deferred payment plans can be arranged upon request. Services
can be paid by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.
Currently enrolled UWSP students receive evaluation and treatment services free of charge.
Does the clinic bill insurance companies for services?
The clinic does not bill insurance providers, but, upon
request, the clinical office manager will provide
documentation for those who wish to file claims with their provider.
