OUR CAMPUS IS COMMITTED TO HELPING STUDENTS
FIND THE SUPPORT THEY NEED.
Students seek out mental health support for a variety of reasons, often to get help dealing with challenging emotions and overwhelming personal circumstances that can impact quality of life and academic success. We offer a variety of services that make it both easy and convenient for you to get the support that you need. Call us today at 715-346-3553 or stop by the Health and Wellness Center in Marshfield Clinic Champions Hall building.
THE FIRST APPOINTMENT
In your first visit, you will meet individually with your therapist to discuss your concerns. The therapist will gather important background information, review with you the necessary paperwork outlining confidentiality and informing you about the therapy process. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions of your therapist.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Counseling Center therapy services are confidential, and records are protected consistent with Wisconsin law. No information related to counseling appears in academic records or transcripts nor is shared outside of the Counseling Center without the permission of the student. Exceptions to confidentiality include imminent danger, child or elder abuse, or a court ordered release.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Working with a UWSP therapist, students in individual therapy identify the nature of their concerns, work together to explore how the concerns developed, set goals and monitor progress toward those goals. Students work with their therapist to determine the appropriate meeting schedule. If neecessary, quality treatment options are also available in the community.
GROUP THERAPY
Guided by two UWSP therapists, group therapy is an opportunity to better understand your relationships with others, learn how others react and respond to you and develop healthier boundaries and ways of partiicpating in relationships with others. Members commonly offer each other support related to developments in each other’s lives, but the main goal is to improve interpersonal relationships.
The Counseling Center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To schedule, change or cancel an appointment, call 715-346-3553.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Counseling Center therapy services are confidential and records are protected in a manner consistent with Wisconsin statutes (Chapters 51 and 146.82). Counseling Center records are fully independent of other campus records and are maintained on a separate and secure server. No information related to your Counseling Center visits appears in your academic records or transcripts, nor is it available to others on campus. Only with your specific and written permission is information about your appointments at the Counseling Center ever disclosed to other parties.
Wisconsin law and professional ethics provide a few exceptions to confidentiality: imminent danger to self and/or others, child/elder abuse, and a court ordered release of records. If you have questions about your privacy, your therapist can discuss the extent and limitations of your confidentiality rights.
