The 2019 Wisconsin Statewide Substance Abuse Prevention Conference joins together efforts we are all making to build prevention-focused communities. By attending, you will have the opportunity to share and gain ideas to help accelerate the use of best and innovative practices across the fields of prevention.​

Statewide Prevention Conference Objectives

By attending this conference, participants will

  • learn more about substance abuse prevention tools and strategies
  • gain awareness of local policy development
  • share lessons learned and success stories
  • network and build relationships 
  • acknowledge the role that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma, equity at stigma play in substance use issues so that these factors can be considered and incorporated into the work that the four previous objectives seek to address

SCAODA Public Forum and DHS Listening Session

The SCAODA Prevention Committee's Public Forum is an opportunity for the State Council to gather input from the general public and/or conference participants for directions on utilization of the Substance Abuse Block Grant funds and programmatic changes. Input will be taken from the public by State Council Representatives and staff.   

The Listening Session will inform attendees about the revision of Wisconsin Chapter DHS 75: Community Substance Abuse Service Standards and the rule-making process. Attendees will be able to provide feedback and changes that they would like to offer for consideration during the revision process.

Continuing Education Hours

Continuing Education Hours are a measure of participation in continuing education programs. A 2-ply certificate of completion form will be in your registration folder when you arrive at the conference and will be your proof of attendance and continuing education hours. It is your responsibility to report your hours earned to your appropriate credential or licensing board.
The 2019 Wisconsin Statewide Substance Use Prevention Conference has been approved for 9.25 CEHs through the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Lodging Information

A room block has been reserved at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center. For reservations, please click here or call 877-253-5466.  If you call, please make sure to identify that you are with the 2019 Prevention Conference Block. Single room occupancy is available for $82/night and 2-4 person occupancy rooms are available for $129/night. To ensure the block room rate, make your reservation no later than Saturday, May 11, 2019.  Rooms may still be available on or after May 12.  Please call the Kalahari for more information.

Cancellations/Refund Policy

Per the agreed to terms and conditions, full refunds granted upon receipt of written request to uwspce-conf@uwsp.edu. Request must be received by May 28, 2019. Cancelling your hotel room does not cancel your conference registration. You will need to contact UWSP Continuing Education at the above email address to make the cancellation. Refunds requested after May 28, 2019 will be assessed a $25 processing fee.  No refunds will be given after June 4, 2019. Substitutions can be made at any time, but no shows will be responsible for the full conference fee. Last minute registrations cannot be guaranteed meals or materials.
