Scope and Authority: The Graduate Council is the representative body of the graduate faculty, acts as its executive committee, and exercises all powers legally and/or traditionally exercised by the graduate faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. These duties include:
- Responsibility for approving all policies relating to UW-Stevens Point graduate programs and specifying the manner in which they are administered.
- Approval of graduate faculty, graduate programs, graduate courses, and other graduate offerings. On all curriculum matters, the council shall, before taking any action, consider budget implications.
- Establishment of admission, retention, and matriculation criteria of the graduate programs.
- Approval of candidates for graduate degrees.
- Review of the mission statement of the university and determination of the priorities to be assigned to graduate proposals.
Procedures for submitting curricular proposals to Graduate Council:
- Curriculum proposals should be submitted using the appropriate forms in Coursedog.
- Proposals are automatically routed in Coursedog for the appropriate approvals from the department/division/unit and dean.
- Following an administrative review from the Office of the Registrar, the chair of the Graduate Council will place proposals on a future agenda for consideration.
- Authors of curriculum proposals should be present (or have someone else represent the department or division) to answer potential questions from the committee. Actions may not be taken without a representative present.
If you need to notify other departments of proposed changes, you can find a list of chairs on the College/Administrative Directory on the Academic Affairs website under More/About Us.
Approvals are required according to the UWSP Academic Approval Chart.
