Parking considerations

The new UW-Stevens Point Chemistry Biology Building will be constructed on what is currently Lot X, which contains 340 parking spaces. The university has addressed this with the following steps (refer to this campus map for lot locations).

  • The 2009 expansion of meters in Lot R was planned as a partial replacement when Lot X would no longer be available. Lot R was increased in capacity by 111 spaces.
  • After the Lot R expansion was completed the average use of Lot X dropped to around 60 percent, less than the utilizations of metered Lots R, Z and F.
  • In fall 2015, day parking permits in Lots T and Q were reassigned and more spaces became metered in Lot T. These new metered spaces are not yet fully used.
  • Lot Y opened in August 2015 as a new metered lot west of the Noel Fine Arts Center, adding a total of 75 hourly metered spaces.

New UW-Stevens Point Chemistry Biology Building will put science education, research on display

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has some of the highest enrollment science programs in the University of Wisconsin System, including more than 2,500 students majoring or minoring in biology, chemistry or other related sciences. To provide students and faculty with the best classroom and laboratory space for research and teaching, the university has worked with the UW System and the State Division of Facilities Development to design a new, state-of-the-art science laboratory/classroom building. Groundbreaking for the buliding took place in spring of 2016.

Designed as a “science-on-display” facility, it will house the entire Department of Chemistry, and the molecular biology, human biology and botany sections of the Department of Biology. As an opportunity for recruiting new students into the sciences, and to complement its renown as a science-excellence campus, the new building will add 176,500 square feet of working space, be a central hub of activity for campus, and be home to more than 45 full-time faculty and staff. It will house the department offices as well as the central offices of the College of Letters and Science.
