An Analysis of Successful MLB At-Bat Outcomes
in Context of the Ball and Strike Count
In baseball, different approaches are taken by the batter based on the ball and strike count. If a batter finds himself in a pitcher’s count he will have to be aggressive at the plate to try to avoid striking out. On the other hand, in a hitter’s count batters can be more conservative, patiently waiting for an attractive pitch to hit. This presentation offers an analysis of play-by-play data from the 2015 MLB season to further understand the relationship between the ball and strike count and the outcome of an at-bat.
