Using Statistical Methods to Improve

NHL Entry Draft Player Selection

One of the most efficient methods for sports teams to improve is by improving methods of selecting players. In this talk, we will show it is possible to outperform NHL teams on the selection of draft-eligible players using data on prospects available on draft day. 

Michael Schuckers is the Rutherford Professor of Statistics at St. Lawrence University. He is the cofounder of Statistical Sports Consulting, LLC, and has consulted for organizations in baseball, hockey, and football. In 2013 he was named the American Statistical Association's Section on Statistics in Sports Significant Contributor.
