Why So Many Sports Cliches Fail but Some Don't
With many hours of airtime to fill during the course of a season, it is no wonder that sports broadcasters must lean on the occasional cliché. This poster investigates the effectiveness of many such phrases, determining whether or not there are useful things to glean from the most commonly used sayings in sports. We look into clichés across each of the four major U.S. sports, ranging from sport-specific (“That team lives and dies by the 3”) to universal claims (“Defense wins championships”).
